Lettercarving in stone & lettering design: 5-day course
15-19 June 2026, Nant Hirwen, Powys, Wales
The ninth five-day design & carving course at this delightful venue in north-east Wales. The course is designed for those with some experience of lettering and/or carving, so will not suit complete beginners. It will include both design and carving, lunch is provided, and self-catering bunkhouse accommodation is available on site.
Cost: £420 including lunch.
Tutor: John Neilson.
Theme: A small inscriptional project which you will design and carve, addressing whatever issues arise in the process.
Stone & equipment:  I will order suitable stone and charge you at cost price. I recommend you bring your own chisels, dummies etc, but I can lend you them if necessary.
Booking: Maximum of 10 participants. Please contact me for more details or to book a place. A £60 deposit will be payable. As of early May 2026 there are still a few places left.

Lettercarving in stone: 5-day course

I will be teaching this introduction to lettercarving in stone at a beautiful venue in the hills of Gabrovo province, central Bulgaria, in the historic village of Bozhentsi.
